ALL ABOUT SUBJECTS
How many SPM subjects should students take?
To receive the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate, Malaysian students should take a minimum of six (6) subjects.
Compulsory Core Subjects (5 subjects)
All students must take:
- Bahasa Melayu
- English
- Mathematics
- History (Sejarah) – Must pass to get the SPM certificate
- Science (for non-science stream students) OR Additional Mathematics (for science stream students)
Students must take at least one (1) elective subject, but most students take more (usually 8-11 subjects) based on their stream (Science, Arts, Technical, etc.).
1. Science Stream (Typically 9-11 Subjects)
Ideal for students aiming for medical, engineering, or tech-related fields.
Common Subjects:
- Additional Mathematics (Compulsory for Science students)
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology (optional, some students take ICT instead)
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) (optional)
Examples of Science Stream Subject Combinations:
✅ Pure Science (9 subjects) → Add Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
✅ Science + ICT (9 subjects) → Add Maths, Physics, Chemistry, ICT
✅ Science + Accounting (10 subjects) → Add Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Principles of Accounting
2. Arts Stream (Typically 8-10 Subjects)
Suitable for students interested in business, social sciences, or humanities.
Common Subjects:
- Economics
- Business Studies
- Principles of Accounting
- Geography
- Literature in English (optional)
- Islamic Studies / Pendidikan Moral
Examples of Arts Stream Subject Combinations:
✅ Business & Economics (9 subjects) → Add Maths, Economics, Business Studies, Accounting
✅ Humanities & Social Sciences (8 subjects) → Geography, Literature, Economics
3. Technical/Vocational Stream (8-10 Subjects)
Ideal for students interested in engineering, design, or skilled trades.
Common Subjects:
- Engineering Science
- Design & Technology
- Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Studies
- Agriculture Science
- Food Science
Examples of Technical Subject Combinations:

INTAKE & TIMETABLE
When is the intake?
You can join this program anytime, however we need 6 to 12 months for SPM exam preparation, depends on student’s capabilities and background.
How is the Timetable?
As one to one SPM Homeschooling and exam preparation, every student has his or her own timetable. We will work and schedule our students’ timetable, after they register with us and according to their availability.
EXAM REGISTRATION
Where to Register for SPM Exam?
You can register at any local school that accepts private candidates.
When is the SPM Exam?
SPM exam will be conducted once a year in December/January. However the exact dates will be announced in advance.
When is SPM retake date?
The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Ulangan (SPMU), commonly known as the SPM retake examination, is typically held annually in August. For instance, the 2024 SPMU was conducted from August 20 to 22, 2024, covering subjects such as Bahasa Melayu, History, and Mathematics.
While the exact dates for the 2025 SPMU have not yet been announced, they are expected to follow a similar schedule in August 2025. The Ministry of Education Malaysia will release the official timetable closer to the examination period.
